Redfleet Reservoir Perch Transfer
Utah Division of Wildlife Resources personnel and volunteer anglers came together today to catch Yellow Perch for transplant into Redfleet Reservoir. Yellow Perch were identified in the management plan as a forage species for the sterile Walleye which will be stocked later this Spring. The goal for today was 1,000 perch and we achieved that amount by 1:30 pm. The hope is that these fish will spawn in Redfleet and start a naturally reproducing population. Wipers have already been introduced into Redfleet as one of the sportfish predators outlined in the plan. Soon Sterile Walleye, Black Crappie, and Mountain Whitefish will be stocked. Once Redfleet is "up and running", it will be a destination fishery that has a unique combination of fish species. All of these fish were identified by the public as what they wanted to see in Redfleet. My sincere hope is that no one messes this up by illegally stocking something else in there. Many thanks to those DWR folks in the Northeastern region who pulled this all together!!
