Redfleet Reservoir gets sterile Walleye

Redfleet Reservoir which was treated last fall, has taken one more step on its path to becoming a destination fishery.  Today, April 6th, Redfleet will be stocked with 750,000 sterile Walleye.  Sterile Walleye have never been produced in Utah before so this is a groundbreaking achievement!  These fish were produced and sterilized at the UDWR Springville hatchery.  Springville is one of Utah's three warmwater hatcheries and has recently been renovated as a part of the warmwater hatchery program.   Although the Walleye are small (less than an 1") the Utah Division of Wildlife Resource (UDWR) biologists are confident that if we can get a good prey base established, walleye could grow to catchable sizes in just over a year.

Perch were stocked last month and Redfleet will soon be seeing Crappie and Mountain Whitefish.  These species are part of the forage fish program and will help maintain a healthy predator/prey relationship.

In addition, to help keep Redfleet moving forward, there is a proposed structure project for later this year.  The structure will provide additional habitat for the Perch and Crappie.  More detailed information will be posted once it becomes available.

Redfleet will be a place you have to fish!
