The Northeastern Region of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) recently netted at Starvation Reservoir using Fall Walleye Index Netting (FWIN).  FWIN uses specific nets (mesh size) and follows a specific protocol to build a population model for the future.  Natalie Boren, Northestern Region Biologist, said that Starvation Reservoir is "firing on all cylinders" and that all of the fish are doing well and we should see some great fishing next year. Here are some pictures from the netting.

Flannelmouth Suckers were also picked up in the nets.  These are a Utah sensitive species and are closely monitored by the UDWR for their population size, distribution, and health.  All of the Flannelmouths that were caught were checked for Passive Integrated Responder (PIT) tags which the Biologists can read to determine when and where the fish was last checked.  Any fish that didn't have PIT tags were tagged on the spot and had their size, weight, and health recorded.  This is important information that will help the UDWR keep the Flannelmouth Sucker from being listed as endangered.  It appears the fish are coming into Starvation to "bulk up" as most of the fish in the river don't get this large.
